A miniature retrospective

Nakagin Capsule Tower was the world's first capsule modular apartment building.
One of the best examples of japanese metabolism, designed by Kisho Kurokawa, built in 1972 and dismantled in 2022.

Why miniature?

It's the best way to represent this particular small modular architecture.
The main idea of this project is to do a tribute to this emblematic building also to improve my 3D CGI skills.
The building

We designed all the building with its 140 capsules, podium and shafts in 1/45 scale, reproducing all the detail it needs to be recognised.

All of each 140 capsules measures 5.7x6.3x9.4 cm and the entire the building 70x118x45 cm without antennas.

The capsule (A1 type)

With the measurements previously mentioned we put all the detail we needed in order to build a memorable model.

Each capsule has 84 pieces.
Main structure is made out of iron, exterior sheets from anodized aluminium, bed and puff of real fabric and the rest high quality resin hand painted and mounted meticulously.
Basic tools and materials can be used such as glue, airbrush, cutters and sander.
All the assembly process.

Assembly to the shaft by a simple attach system.

We cut various mounted models to see the interior.
